John was one of those rare people who touched other people’s lives in a deep way. He more closely followed the code of bushido than anyone else I have known. He emphasized his persistent training and his goal of achieving a black belt by declining all intermediate rank promotions until the single goal was obtained.John’s memory is recalled in our Columbus dojo on the anniversary of his death each March 24th. On that day in 1984 while he was on a US Marine Corps “Team Spirit” military exercise in Korea – the helicopter John was piloting crashed. Nevertheless, the way that he lived his life has continued to be remembered and greatly appreciated.
